The right time to provide a service is one in which the service maximizes the benefits or in simple terms, when an individual or group will be able to gain the most benefit from the information given. Although it has become popular to provide crisis response services immediately following an incident (within 1-2 hours), there is little evidence to support that this is beneficial. What is needed in the first few hours is a touch of human kindness and support. An effective supportive response should be determined on an individual basis; dependent upon the uniqueness of the business, workgroup or individual experience. One size does not fit all. A formula isn't always necessary to define when help is needed.
