Crisis response is more than just intervention. It’s not enough to provide a service if it’s not the right service or provided at the right time.
What is the right response?
A supportive response is one that maximizes the individual’s or company’s ability to manage their reaction to a crisis. Our approach is to encourage a strengths-based perspective that integrates company, family, community and peer support to enhance the recovery process. We believe in an individual’s capacity to grow through challenges faced in a crisis.
When is the right time?
The right time to provide a service is when the service maximizes benefit – when an individual or group is able to reap the most benefit. Although it has become popular to provide crisis response services within 1-2 hours of an incident, there is little evidence to support that this is beneficial. What is needed in the first few hours is a touch of human kindness and support. An effective supportive response should be determined on an individual basis; dependent upon the uniqueness of the business, workgroup or individual experience. One size does not fit all. A formula isn’t always necessary to define when help is needed.
